Guano

Video game
Lead Level Designer
August 2023 – March 2024

Play as a delightfully dumb seagull, find food and complete quests to help free the Grand Masters and gain their powers. Harrass humans and free the Pohemeda Islands from the evil Food Inc. with your powerful poop and loud screams!

Guano, the game, is a collectathon with a platformer-like progression that lets you do basically anything you want. As Guano, you can soar through the air to navigate through the open-world of the Pohemeda Islands, conquered by the evil Food Inc. corporation. To take back the islands from them, Guano has to gain food from fellow seagulls through quests or steal food from humans to feed the weakened Grand Masters.

For our final year in university, 13 teams of 3 to 5 students had to come up with an idea of video game to create for the final projects. Only 2 projects would be kept at the very end, and through many elimination rounds, Guano was one of the final projects of the year with a total of 24 full-time students working on it. My role on this project was the role of lead level designer, where I had to learn how to lead a small group of 4 other level designers and give and receive critique on my and their work. I also had to learn the management part of the role, as in learn how to communicate with other departments (especially the environmental art department) to make the plans were respected between the level design department and the rest of the team.
